Description of the Regulation

The 21st Century Cures Act was enacted in December 2016. The Act promotes and finances research aimed to prevent and cure serious diseases; promotes medication development and medical devices; tries to improve the delivery of mental health care; and addresses the issue of opioid crises (Barlas, 2018). Moreover, the Act contains several provisions that promote increased interoperability and implementation of electronic health records (EHRs). The Act also has provisions that promote improved healthcare IT and improving the quality of patient care. The Cures Act has improved the exchange and flow of exchange of electronic health information. The Act also gives provisions and rules on how and when patient information should be shared.
