Description of the Regulation

The 21st Century Cures Act was enacted in December 2016. The Act promotes and finances research aimed to prevent and cure serious diseases; promotes medication development and medical devices; tries to improve the delivery of mental health care; and addresses the issue of opioid crises (Barlas, 2018). Moreover, the Act contains several provisions that promote increased interoperability and implementation of electronic health records (EHRs). The Act also has provisions that promote improved healthcare IT and improving the quality of patient care. The Cures Act has improved the exchange and flow of exchange of electronic health information. The Act also gives provisions and rules on how and when patient information should be shared. Moreover, the Act has given patients more control over their health information, and healthcare providers are provided more information to help them provide better care and treatment (Gabay, 2017).

Impact on Care, Interactions and Workflow

The Act has improved access, use, and understanding of health information, improving their interactions with the healthcare providers during access to information. The Act also facilitates the provision of individualized care and helps healthcare providers to make better of healthcare experiences, reduces healthcare costs, and facilitates better outcomes (Black et al., 2018).

Organizational Policies and Procedures

The organization has a policy that requires all the organizational departments to adopt all regulatory and legislative requirements such as the implementation of the Act’s provisions. The healthcare organization acknowledges the importance of maintaining patient health records and efficient management of the patient data to improve patient care.
