Nursing Care Management of Sepsis Essay.

Respond to this post: My EBP topic I chose for this semester is nursing care management of sepsis. Sepsis is not uncommon in the acute care setting and all nurses must be up to date on the latest advances and EBP for the management of sepsis and septic shock. As a BSN prepared nurse, we can take the opportunity to provide logical, scientifically-sound evidence for our care. For sepsis, there are many articles and periodicals out there that provide such EBP.Nursing Care Management of Sepsis Essay.

Nursing management for a patient diagnosed with sepsis includes early recognition of symptoms, immediate interventions, and continuous evaluation for subtle and abrupt changes in status (Pruinelli et al., 2018). The standard protocol as stated in the Surviving Sepsis Campaign states 4 interventions nurses must perform within 3 hours of diagnosis of sepsis: 1) Obtain a blood culture prior to administration of antibiotics, 2) Obtain a lactate level, 3) Administer broad-spectrum antibiotics, 4) administer 30mL/kg of crystalloid fluid for hypotension (indicated by a MAP <60 or lactate >4) (Pruinelli et al., 2018). While there are many topics for which to choose from in the management of sepsis, I am looking into how a delay in treatment of sepsis can affect mortality and patient outcomes. Several barriers to implementing EBP exist in nursing. Studies show that certain beliefs and attitudes of nurses, administrators, and leaders influence the use of EBP. The idea of continuing to give nursing care the same exact way one was taught as a novice nurse is moving towards the idea of using EBP to improve and update guidelines of care.Nursing Care Management of Sepsis Essay. However, there are still individuals in the nursing field who still believe the best care is that which they were taught many years ago. In order to implement EBP properly and across the board, leaders must take responsibility to emphasize the value of research and EBP in the clinical setting. Some examples of this include presenting new, updated information on care guidelines to a whole department or nursing unit, implementing standard protocols with scientifically-sound, evidence-based research to back it up, or discussing the value and significance that research and EBP have on patient outcomes with their colleagues. To gain more insight on this topic, I will continue to conduct search through the FIU Libraries databases. I have already found several articles within the nursing research databases. I will also ask the nurse leaders and my assigned nurse in my practicum facility about how they conduct research while they are providing care as well as on their guidance on the topic of sepsis management.Nursing Care Management of Sepsis Essay.
