When should behavioral objectives be utilized in a care plan or health promotion?


Nurses have a responsibility to be educators in healthcare sector. They inform patients and the general public about their health requirements and how to address the numerous difficulties impacting them. By teaching communities, families, and people about a variety of health concerns, nurses play a crucial role in ensuring the nation’s health is improved (Fereidouni et al., 2019) NRS-429VN Topic 1 DQ 1. Some of these responsibilities include educating patients and the general public on how to live healthier lifestyles, teaching patients how to minimize harmful health behaviors, and instructing patients on how to take care of themselves in order to live healthier and safer lives. Providing services is a crucial component of their schooling curriculum. Education provided by nurses empowers patients, allowing them to better their health state. Through education, nurses assist patients in preventing sickness, treating minor infections, and living a healthier life. They provide sage advice and also respond to inquiries posed by patients (Mthiyane & Habedi, 2018).

When designing individualized care plans for patients, health educators may employ a variety of health-promoting practices. These tactics involve the implementation of technology in the classroom. Education not only facilitates good patient-nurse contact, but also makes instructional resources readily available and accessible. The alternative method engages the patient’s interests. It is essential for a nurse educator to create a relationship with the patient and demonstrate to him their willingness to assist him. They also provide information regarding the patient’s condition in sufficient depth for the patient to completely comprehend. This guarantees that patients respect the educators’ instructions and have faith in them. Lastly, it is essential to incorporate family members. As an educator, incorporating family members in the education process guarantees that the patient’s instructions are followed and that he or she is completely supported by individuals who understand the patient’s situation (Mofokeng et al., 2021).

Behavioral objectives should be included in a patient’s care plan from the start of the education process, when the nurse is aware of the patient’s physical, psychological, and emotional status. During this phase, the educator understands how to interact with the patient and design a plan that addresses all of his requirements.

A lot of responsibility falls on the nurse. One of the critical roles is being a nurse educator to promote health and disease prevention. Nurses should also recognize personal bias and be aware of stereotyping and discrimination to avoid thus type of thinking or treatments of patients.  Once the learning needs of the patient have been identified, a teaching plan can be developed. Some patients will benefit from lifestyle and behavioral changes to reduce risk of illness. Patients experiencing health disparities and negative social determinants may also benefit from behavioral objectives in the plan of care. The plan should list measurable learning objectives that include an action verb to identify the expected change in behavior that will be measured as a result of the learning process. The objectives should be written in behavioral terms, specifying the desired outcome and incorporated into the nursing care plan. Behavioral objectives are the action that describes the behavioral change the patient will learn to promote health(Whitney, 2018). If using behavioral health objectives the patient must want to change the behavior associated. The patient has the right to decline this care plan treatment and changes suggested. Sometimes that means making sure patients understand the risks and benefits of treatments, procedures, medication and lifestyle changes.
