Developing a Culture for Evidence-Based Practice

Discussion: Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice

As your EBP skills grow, you may be called upon to share your expertise with others. While EBP practice is often conducted with unique outcomes in mind, EBP practitioners who share their results can both add to the general body of knowledge and serve as an advocate for the application of EBP.

In this Discussion, you will explore strategies for disseminating EBP within your organization, community, or industry.

To Prepare:

Review the Resources and reflect on the various strategies presented throughout the course that may be helpful in disseminating effective and widely cited EBP.

This may include: unit-level or organizational-level presentations, poster presentations, and podium presentations at organizational, local, regional, state, and national levels, as well as publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Reflect on which type of dissemination strategy you might use to communicate EBP. Developing a Culture for Evidence-Based Practice

By Day 3 of Week 9

Post at least two dissemination strategies you would be most inclined to use and explain why. Explain which dissemination strategies you would be least inclined to use and explain why. Identify at least two barriers you might encounter when using the dissemination strategies you are most inclined to use. Be specific and provide examples. Explain how you might overcome the barriers you identified.

By Day 6 of Week 9

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days by offering additional ideas to overcome the barriers to strategies suggested by your colleagues and/or by offering additional ideas to facilitate dissem

Evidence-based practice is a piece of integrated research evidence, clinical expertise, and a problem-solving approach that helps nurses provides individualized patient care. Evidence-based practice involves the identification of a clinical problem, gathering or researching on the best evidence, analyzing the evidence, applying the evidence to clinical practice, and assessing the results (Kim,et al, 2020). Evidence-based practice updates nurses and clinicians about new medical protocols. This paper describes strategies for developing evidence-based practice and their barriers.Sethares, K. A. (2020) Dissemination strategies are forms of communication that enables the nurses and clinicians to share and advocate in the r implementation for its use in the clinical practice. Dissemination Strategies

Lay Versions

Lay version is a dissemination strategy used in communicating and implementing evidence-based strategy. It passes information through print media; brochures, leaflets, and posters (Murali, G. 2020). This dissemination strategy is convenient in passing information through diagrams and bold prints to attract the attention of the desired population. It is used by the care providers as reference points during patient education and treatment. The viewer’s gain a better understanding of the evidence based practice. An example of lay versions in the EBP is done to the nurses already in practice. The use of charts and diagrams acts as a guide of the newly incorporated procedures.

Podium Presentations

This is the most commonly used strategy in disseminating the implementation of EBP. Podium presentations are used at the community, schools, and CME’s. The presenter disseminates their research to their viewers and expects to get feedback from them (Waterford, A. 2020). For example, podium presentation in the EBP is used by the nursing students or the newly employed nurses. This gives them a collective learning environment that helps them transition into the new practices.Developing a Culture for Evidence-Based Practice
