Week 7: Discussion Question 2 – What is Advanced Practice Nursing?

Nursing practice refers to the functions, duties, obligations, and tasks of registered nurses. On the other hand, advanced practice nursing refers to knowledge, extensive expertise, and experience in care delivery. Advanced practice nursing has to be implemented in order to provide a coordinated, evidence-based, and systematic approach as it will improve nursing inclination towards advanced practice and enhance the usage of objective assessment and role dimensions.

Nursing Theories that can be Applied to Advanced Practice Nursing

Unitary Human Being- This theory is based on patient care by emphasizing the correlation between the patient and the surrounding. As per this theory, the connection between the patient and the immediate environment should be transformed to promote recovery and improve the wellness of the individual (Koffi, 2015).

Developmental theory- It reflects on changing needs as people rise. This insight will help the nursing staff to handle patients appropriately while they consider their phase of development (Ahtisham&Jacoline, 2015).

Transcultural Nursing theory– It specifies that nurses ought to offer care consistent with the client’s cultural principles and beliefs (Busher, 2016). Therefore, there is a need to incorporate the knowledge of cultural belief into advanced practice nursing. Week 7: Discussion Question 2 – What is Advanced Practice Nursing?

Theory of Caring This theory hypothesizes that there ought to be a profound relationship between the patient and the nurse and that it is the nurse’s obligation (Sitzman& Watson, 2018).

5 C’s of Caring – confidence, compassion, competence, conscience, and commitment, should be integrated with advanced nursing practice, which would enable registered nurses as well as nursing learners to fulfill their tasks successfully and accomplish their objectives (Stmary.edu, 2020).
