Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement
Describe your personal worldview, including the religious, spiritual, and cultural elements that you think most influence your personal philosophy of practice and attitude towards patient care.
My understanding of worldview is that it is the framework that summarizes my life and understanding of my environment as well as what constitutes my reality. It links my moral actions and beliefs, and integrates cultural and spiritual elements and principles to offers an awareness of the challenges and opportunities that I face (Dominguez, 2020). Although I do not subscribe to any particular religion and I would not consider myself a religious person, I am spiritual. I believe in fairness, karma and retribution, and always try to treat others the way I would like to be treated.Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement. I perceive all moral and ethical concerns from the perspective of fairness and karma. By making fair decisions, I expect that the universe will work its miracle and give me fairness. However, if I make unfair decisions, then I would be sowing bad karma and should similarly expected to be treated unfairly in the future. In addition, I believe that the universe always seeks to achieve balance. For every action, there must be an equal reaction. If someone is sick, then there must be medicine to treat that sickness and the right medicine only needs to be identified. For instance, Covid-19 epidemic is currently ravaging the world with significant infection and mortality rates, as well as social and economic effects. The vaccines and treatments for Covid-19 are available and scientists only need to identify the right compounds. The implication is that the notions of fairness, karma and retribution act as the foundation of my decisions and life (Solomon & Higgins, 2017).Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement.
In addition, I am influenced by the notions of common law, specifically the principles, regulations, laws and rules that govern my society. This is especially true for the way I interact with others and act in my professional work environment. In fact, I would conclude that I have a secularized view of the world to include patient care. This has influenced me to always provide fair treatment to patients for fear that any unfair treatment would result in retribution and others to treat me unfairly. This has helped me to address contentious issues in my professional practice. For instance, I am more sympathetic towards the topic of abortion and always wonder how I would feel if I was conscious as a fetus and become aware that my mother was considering aborting me (Landsman & van Wolde, 2016). Overall, my personal worldview has helped me to navigate the health care environment and provide professional nursing services that I would be willing to accept from others.Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement.
Specific nursing theory that is most in line with your personal philosophy of practice and approach to patient care and discuss the similarities. Explain how the nursing theory reinforces your approach to care.
Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring is best aligned with my personal philosophy of nursing practice and approach to patient care. This theory of caring acts as the foundation for delivering efficient and effective nursing practice, mentioning that nurses must express concern and kindness as principles within the professional environment. In fact, concern and kindness must be considered as basic foundational principles that facilitate efforts to engage patients, understand their needs, and meet the identified needs (Watson, 2018).Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement.
As a nurse, there are professional expectations that I must meet as a minimum requirement for other stakeholders. The ten curative factors presented in the theory help with meeting these professional expectations. Firstly, kindness and altruistic values are identified as a curative factor. This helps me to embrace the patients, understand the care they require, and ensure that the required nursing care is provided. Secondly, the belief that nursing care is able to provide the required care for patients as a curative factor.Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement. This helps to give me confidence to provide nursing services as required services. In addition, it helps to inspire patients to seek the nursing services that I provide. Thirdly, the understanding that help and trust in the relationship between patients and nurses within the health care environment is the foundation of nurses as a curative factor. This helps with ensuring that I have good relationships with patients(Rosa, Horton-Deutsch & Watson, 2018).Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement.
Fourthly, the need to trust stakeholders within the nursing care environment and the belief that each stakeholder would do their part in supporting the delivery of nursing services as a curative factor. This helps with focusing attention on roles and responsibilities, and trusting that the supporting roles and responsibilities will be completed. Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement.Fifthly, the need to accept that mistakes can be innocent and that these should be approached with a forgiving attitude that genuinely listens to and accepts opinions as a curative factor. This helps with ensuring that others are included in care planning and delivery. Sixthly, the need to be deeply involved in professional practice with keen interest is making use of current evidence to guide decision-making as a curative factor. This helps with leveraging evidence-based practice. Seventhly, the need to pursue balance in the stakeholders’ needs as a curative factor. This ensures satisfaction with the nursing services provided. The eighth curative factor is the need to create a healing environment that respects dignity while balancing spiritual, psychological and physical wellbeing. The ninth curative factor is the need to meet the basic emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the patients, family and nurses. The tenth curative actor is openness to possibility that are difficult to explain using current evidence. It allows for the acceptance of miracles and mysteries occurring in care delivery (Rosa, Horton-Deutsch& Watson, 2018).Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement.
Explain how your worldview and the nursing theory will assist you in further developing your future practice.
My worldview and Theory of Human Caring are aligned in refining my underrating of nursing and practice, and guides me in developing practice. My personal worldview is based on the belief in fairness, karma and retribution. I believe that I will receive as much as I give out. If I put effort into providing the best possible nursing care, then I will similarly receive the best nursing care when I present as a patient. The Theory of Human Caring is based aligned with my worldview since they best identify the issues that are relevant to nursing practice.Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement. They emphasize the need to put in the best effort when trusted to serve others. I am aware that each individual is unique, and the theory helps to address this by ensuring that others are included and are able to contribute to nursing care. This has been especially instrumental in ensuring health care equality and emphasizing the centrality of care as core principles in nursing. These understandings have been important in advocacy efforts, especially with regards to making meaningful contributions in ensuring that each patient receives the required care (Butts & Rich, 2018).Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement. Also, the worldview and theory help in developing a unique awareness of ethics as a concept that highlights the responsibility of every nurse to safeguard and affirm the value of each individual. Besides that, they have helped with developing the right thoughts, feelings and attitudes for engaging patients and other stakeholders in the nursing care environment. In addition, they enhance the intention to improve professional nursing skills, competencies and knowledge to better understand and meet the needs of patients (Fawcett, 2016).Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement.
