Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification

Interview Summary

For this interview, I interviewed the nursing supervisor at a given hospital. The supervisor provided critical insights on the structure of the organization, her role as the supervisor, and the primary duties associated with her position. Critically, she highlighted some of the main issues seen within the facility. As mentioned, the facility experiences issues such as shortage of staff members, inadequate communication across departments, and difficulties in the implementation of technologies that would help in facilitate effective provision of healthcare. Such issues have adversely impacted how the supervisor coordinates nursing staff effectively for optimal patient outcomes. The Impact of Transformational Leadership on Nurses Essay

In addressing the issues given above, the facility within which the nurse supervisor works for implemented certain techniques including hiring of temporary staff and increasing the working hours of the staff. Also, the organization holds regular meetings within departments and provides training for effective technology use. However, the efforts have not yielded much results. Some improvements have been seen in some areas while others continue to witness persistent challenges. The supervisor mentioned that the facility has been supportive and she acknowledges the effective techniques needed to tackle the remaining problems. When asked about interdisciplinary collaboration within the health facility, the nurse supervisor claimed that there is a general positive attitude towards it. Precisely, it was recognized that it is integral in improving patient outcomes and would be of profound essence in streamlining processes of healthcare delivery. The supervisor has been working on interdisciplinary teams and characterized her experience as valuable, but can be challenging at times due to the different priorities and barriers in communication. Nonetheless, attitudes of the organizations towards collaboration have influenced her largely. However, there is still room for improvement towards a culture characterized by collaboration and teamwork. The Impact of Transformational Leadership on Nurses Essay

Identified Issue for Interdisciplinary Approach

From the interview with the nurse supervisor, it was clear that technology implementation was one of the barriers towards effective interdisciplinary collaboration.  The issue is significant since technology is needed to optimize patient care, enhance efficiency in workflow processes, and ensure that the health facility remains competitive. An evidence-based interdisciplinary approach would be needed to rectify the problem as it would allow for integration of different technologies to streamline processes in different departments ranging from nursing to information technology, administration and different other departments. Change Theories and Leadership Techniques

Informing an interdisciplinary approach to the identified problem would require change theories and leadership strategies. One of the change theories is the Kotter’s eight-step model for change (Miles et al., 2023). The model helps in stating how a sense of urgency is needed alongside critical elements such as building a coalition and effectively communicating the vision. In actualizing these change, transformative leadership skills are required. Transformational leadership is needed to inspire motivation in the staff members and allow for intellectual stimulation (Iqbal et al., 2019). Through this form of leadership, interdisciplinary teams could be mobilized to ensure technological innovations are implemented and thus overcome any form of resistance. Collaborative Approaches

Literature by Alderwick et al. (2021) suggests that collaboration is needed to improve interdisciplinary teams that would help in addressing organizational issues linked to implementation of technology. Interdisciplinary tasks forces comprising of representatives from nursing, information technology, administration, and ultimate users allow for diverse perceptions that needs to be considered on the process of making decisions. Besides, Alderwick et al. (2021) recommends the implementation of regular interdisciplinary meetings allow for open communication, foster sharing of knowledge, and promotes a sense of ownership among teams. Training and resources are also needed to enhance collaboration across departments and ensure proficiency in technology use. The Impact of Transformational Leadership on Nurses Essay
