Role of Disinfection and Hand Hygiene Essay

Respond to this post:Iyoleisi Lopez The topic I searched for was hand hygiene and how it has been proven to prevent hospital-acquired infections within the CPG. It was a fairly easy topic to find a lot of information on since it is one of the most basic healthcare practices. One of the things I read on the CPG that I did not know is that alcohol-based hand rubs are preferred over water and soap unless hands are noticeably soiled. Evidence shows that washing hands with plain soap fails to remove pathogens of hospital employee hands. Also, hand rubs are less irritating to hands and compliance usually is better (CDC, 2020). Before I began this program, I worked at an urgent care for over 6 years and shadowed a CRNA. During that time, I learned many of the guidelines of hand hygiene and used them on a daily basis. Such as, washing my hands before and after touching a patient. Role of Disinfection and Hand Hygiene Essay. If I touch a soiled body part of a patient, I made sure to wash my hands before touching another body part of the same patient to prevent the spread of infection.

Hand hygiene failure is a significant cause of nosocomial infection. Effective hand hygiene plays a critical role in preventing and reducing the transmission of microbes and pathogens from patient to patient.

It helps to minimize the transmission of infectious diseases, including colds, measles, and other upper respiratory conditions. Hand hygiene is a large aspect of personal hygiene and the incorporation of protective precautions in the production of routines that prevent disease will serve to further mitigate the transmission of germs and pathogens.Health-related diseases are linked to high direct and indirect costs. Improving hand hygiene among nursing staff is expected to reduce the occurrence of health-related infections.Healthcare-Associated Diseases (HAIs) have become a major concern impacting a substantial percentage of hospitalized patients.

The most significant single anti-infection control method in different health care facilities, including care facilities, is hand rubbing. This term applies to the use of an antiseptic hand rub to suppress or prevent the development of microbes without the need for an exogenous water source and without the need for towels or other appliances to be rinsed or cleaned.

Alcohol-based hand rub is recommended over water and soap in very many clinical cases since: is much more efficient than soap in destroying potentially harmful germs on hands, requires less time, is more convenient than hand washing sinks, achieves decreased bacterial counts on hands. Hand rubs will easily decrease the number of microbes on your hands in many cases. However, this is (Roy, Parida and Bhatia,2020). It may not eliminate all kinds of germs, and may not be as effective when hands are dirty or greasy, and Hand rubs do not extract hazardous chemicals from hands such as heavy metals and pesticides. Today’s modern hand rubs are also made with skin softeners that help resist drying. Of the published research available, many explain that nurses that regularly use alcohol rubs have much less skin pain and dryness than those that use water and soap. Alcohol palms are stung whether the team member has any injuries or damaged skin. These areas should be covered with a waterproof plaster(Roy, Parida and Bhatia,2020).
