Select one type of Public Health Nursing that would function in the U.S. Health System based on the definitions you read about. Then after reviewing the major strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. Health System based on the above website reviews, post a one-paragraph summary of a strength and a one-paragraph summary of a weakness and include the type of public health nurse that would be most appropriate in providing care in this system. This should address a strength and weakness related to our U.S. health system and not an evaluation of the websites you reviewed. Remember to include one type of Public Health Nursing that would function in the U.S. Health System based on the definitions you read about. Support your answer with at least two references.

A major strength of the US healthcare system is the presence of a huge and highly trained healthcare workforce, which guarantees a broad range of high-quality medical specialists, tertiary and secondary institutions, and robust research programs in the health sector (Hargan, 2019). This helps to ensure rapid access to patients’ needs while in a hospital setting. As a result, one can easily receive a rapid diagnosis, a second specialist opinion, or treatment that involves an invasive procedure.

An identified weakness is the presence of a relatively large population that lacks insurance and has limited access to basic primary care partly due to budget cuts on public programs, increasing costs of private health insurance, and employees declining coverages sponsored by employers (CDC, 2019). Lack of insurance coverage makes care providers inaccessible and unaffordable. It is for the same reason that President Trump’s administration has endorsed several reforms to promote affordable insurance coverage and stable markets.

The nurse whose practice is community-based practices in the setting where patients live, play, work, and empower families and individuals with the primary responsibility for decisions regarding their care. The nurse whose practice is community-based can help to address the challenge of high-uninsured rates by providing community-wide healthcare services to improve healthcare access.  A perfect example includes providing care programs for uninsured prenatal mothers, nutritional support for the elderly, and education programs for teenage smokers.
