Program Evaluation

Curriculum Components

Curriculum components encompass the nursing course content that is specifically covered throughout a given educational program. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is fully approved by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and its quality curricula is deemed to be in alignment with the basic guidelines and standards provided by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) (Walden University, 2023b). Essentially, at least nine specializations are currently available under the  graduate degree program in nursing, with the most notable one being nurse practitioner (e.g. family nurse practitioner, adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, Psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner), specialty practice (e.g. nurse informatics, nursing education, nurse leader, nurse executive, public health nursing). As such, whilst the curriculum components of this particular course-based program require the students to complete a total of 180 credits in order to earn the BSN degree (Walden University, 2023d). Students

Eligible candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) program include those currently working as registered nurses. The BSN program is widely recommended for current registered nurses (RNs) and those with a diploma in nursing or an associate’s degree in registered nursing. The program is uniquely designed to equip and support registered nurses with current knowledge and specialized skills and competencies to successfully deliver in the modern job settings (Walden University, 2023a). Alumni

An alumnus is described as an individual who has graduated or attended a particular university, college or school, and hence considered a former student of that institution. Considering that the core mission and vision of the institution is informed by the greater need to effect positive social change, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program has produced many alumni who have become real social change agents in different parts of the world.  Named the BSN Program Alumni Ambassador, David Ramos is a graduate of the BSN program and a veteran. As such, the BSN Nursing program has been highly instrumental in developing and nurturing a unique set of nursing professionals equipped with advanced skills and specialized clinical knowledge with application to specific and diverse patient populations (Walden University, 2023d).  Therefore, the central role played by former students in the pursuit of positive social change is largely informed by the evidence-based knowledge and advanced skills acquired and honed through their successful participation in this BSN program. Human Resources

Offered in both course-based learning program and Tempo learning format, the BSN program is delivered by a diverse, respected and ardent faculty.  The human resources tasked with producing and implementing the curriculum comprises of skilled educators and practitioners chosen not only for their industry/nursing/business and academic credentials but also for their enthusiasm, energy, passion and dedication to inspire positive social change and continuous learning.  At least 95% of faculty hold a doctoral degree, and hence can be considered well qualified to perform as change-makers, thought-leaders and educators strongly committed to the goal of inspiring and guiding students throughout the graduate program (Walden University, 2023c).

Evaluation Model of Choice

The Context, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) model of curriculum evaluation can be useful when conducting a program evaluation. Initially developed by Stufflebeam, the CIPP model has been extensively utilized in different contexts and fields to reinforce the centrality of evaluation in the customization of programs to meet the set goals and objectives (Lee, Shin & Lee, 2019). Surendran and Saad (2019) established that the model is made up of four key elements namely: context evaluation, input evaluation, product evaluation and process evaluation.  Focused on distinct aspects of the nursing curriculum, the CIPP model can be utilized as a comprehensive, iterative and participatory framework for guiding the planning and development, execution and assessment of a nursing program through an evaluation of each of its core elements (Lee, Shin & Lee, 2019. As a decision-oriented approach to program evaluation, Lippe and Carter (2018) explained that the CIPP model can be used by the key stakeholders and evaluators to gain access to relevant data and information for program operation and management. When used for evaluating the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, the CIPP model is highly preferred for quality and merit evaluation to determine whether the given program is managed effectively and efficiently in tandem with the prevailing needs and produce newly-trained nurses to meet the expectations of both the educational and healthcare facilities. When used for conducting a program evaluation,  a close look at the input components of the BSN program reveal a set of aspects including quarterly teaching plans, the syllabus, and available infrastructure, including human resources.  A successful program must be able to meet the national higher education standards and norms as far as awarding of marks to the input components is concerned (Lee, Shin & Lee, 2019). Similarly, the process of evaluation captures the various learning approaches, teaching constituents as well as the assessments. Each of these aspects of the educational must meet the set expectations in lieu of how they are carried out and implemented at the different phases of the nursing program.  The most notable product components under evaluation in a nursing program may include non-intellectual and intellectual components, and evaluating a program based on these aspects can provide vital information and data on the end-achievements in relation to the context, objectives, procedure as well as input (Surendran & Saad, 2019). In terms of the context components, the program evaluation must be able to assign either a positive or negative ratings to the indicators covering the missions and vision, teaching approach as well as educational experience associated with enrolment in the given educational program. Lippe and Carter (2018) established that the context components are highly instrumental in the successful implementation of the program, and hence strong emphasis must be placed on ensuring positive ratings for all context variable components.  Program Evaluation Assignment Paper

Conclusion

This paper covered the major headings of the Master Plan for Program evaluation. It essentially focused on the curriculum components, Students, Alumni, Human Resources and the CIPP model as the selected evaluation model. The core findings indicates that the success of the Nursing program execution is influenced by a myriad of internal and external factors that must be comprehensively evaluated.
