Population Learning Needs Assessment Assignment Paper
Part 1: Learning Questions
Part II: Data Collection Plan
Newly hired nurses have unique learning needs and a strategy developed to gather this data is a mixed-methods approach. This approach incorporates both qualitative and quantitative techniques. In this particular case, an assessment was administered through an online survey platform which has the unique benefit of ease of access to many of these target nurses and completion convenience. Primarily, the survey was a combination of open-ended and closed-ended questions modeled to capture an in-depth understanding of the current knowledge, skills, and experiences related to medication administration and safety this target demographic had. Utilizing the open-ended questions detailed above was essential in allowing respondents to provide detailed, narrative responses. Open ended questions offer insights into the thought processes and personal experiences of the respondents being interviewed. In similar fashion, closed-ended questions were also used with specific scales utilized including Likert scale ratings and multiple-choice questions. The benefit these approaches have is facilitating data quantification, enabling the identification of common trends and areas requiring further training. Maximizing participation of respondents and in order to achieve as a representative sample, the survey link was shared through email and made it accessible on the internal communication platforms of the hospital(s). Follow-up reminders were scheduled to provide opportunities for nurses to complete the survey during staff meetings. This step had the benefit of ensuring a high response rate was attained as well as a rich dataset for subsequent analysis. Population Learning Needs Assessment Assignment Paper
The data collected from the learning needs assessment will be instrumental in quite a number of ways primarily in developing a targeted education plan for newly hired nurses. Analyzing the qualitative and quantitative responses will be beneficial in enabling the identification of existing gaps in knowledge and skills related to medication administration and safety. Equally important is the fact that the open-ended responses received from the respondents will provide detailed insights into the experiences and challenges newly hired nurses face. This is essential as it will allow for the creation of case-based learning scenarios that reflect real-world situations they encounter. Quantitative data, for example the frequency of resource usage and confidence levels, will offer the advantage of easily highlighting common areas where additional training is needed. Simply put, the approach chosen above for conducting the detailed comprehensive analysis is important as it will help inform the development of focused training modules, workshops, and simulation exercises tailored to the identified needs. The education plan eventually developed out of this survey will prioritize critical areas identified for example managing patients with multiple comorbidities. This will ensure accurate medication administration, and effectively using technology like eMAR and smart infusion pumps. The data gathered and analyzed will guide the creation of supplementary resources and support systems, such as mentorship programs and access to up-to-date evidence-based resources, to reinforce learning and promote continuous professional developmen
