Write a summary of the original research article. I’m not a good writer so a B paper is expected.

I’ve attached instructions and please be sure to read and follow the rubric thoroughly. I’ve also attached the article to summarize.Pain Treatments Research Paper

Research Paper

Report on peer reviewed, ORIGINAL RESEARCH ARTICLE:
 TOPIC: PAIN

Using evidenced based research, write an academic paper regarding pain treatments, adjuvant therapy or any topic related to pain you choose. It must be supported with current research as described below.

The report must be in APA Style 7th edition (pardueowl.com is a good source)and include:

  • Title Page
  • Reference page
  • Headers
  • APA page numbering
  • Proper in text citations
  • No abstract necessary

Each student will select an article of personal interest regarding pain.

The original research, peer reviewed article must be at least 5 pages in length and dated after 2016. It can be from any country and any medical subject matter related to pain.

Submit a summary of the original research article discussion include:

  • type of research (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods)
  • a brief discussion of the methods/participants
  • what contribution to medicine the research delivered
  • why this particular article was selected (personal)Pain Treatments Research Paper

The article summary length is to be between 1-2 pages, double-spaced.

Please let me know if you have questions. Thank you.

Journal of Pain Research: Ankle and Foot Pain and Associated Factors among Nurses at Ayder Comprehensive Hospital, Mekelle, Ethiopia: Cross-Sectional Study

The type of research used in this journal is both quantitative. Quantitative research method is the process involving data collection as well as analysis of numerical data (Getie et al, 2021). In addition, quantitative research method helps in finding averages and patterns, testing casual relationships, generalizing results to the wider population as well as making predictions.

Discussion of the Participants/ Methods

The study was conducted between April and May in 2019 in Mekelle the capital city of Tigray national which is located about 783 kilometers from the North of Addis Ababa. There are three general hospitals in Mekelle, one specialized hospital (Ayder) and a couple of private health facilities. There were about 2,185 staff in Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (ACSH) with nurses being around 750. All the nurses working at the ACSH were included in the institutional based cross-sectional study (Getie et al, 2021).  However, all the nurses who had foot deformities, recent surgeries, trauma-ankle feet as well as the nurses with less than one year experience were excluded from the study. The researchers calculated the sample size using the 95% level of significance assumption. A marginal error of 5 percent was assumed while the proportion of the expected frequency was 50 percent prevalence of the ankle-foot pain. The non-response rate of the study population was 10 percent reducing the total sample to 274 participants. The criteria used to select the participants was simple random sampling technique by means of the lottery method.Pain Treatments Research Paper

Data was collected through self-administration using the adapted standardized Nordic questionnaire. The variables included in the questionnaire included; behavioral activities, work related issues, ankle and foot pain, sociodemographic characteristics. Assessment of the ankle/foot pain was done using the transparent foot drawing where the researchers reporting the pain around the ankle and the foot were expected to mark the location of the foot/ankle pain in photos (Getie et al, 2021).  In addition, the researchers assessed the comfort of shoes through visual analog scale where 10 showed highest comfortable level while 0 indicated not comfortable. Additionally, the psychosocial characteristics of the study participants were assessed using the 4-point Likert scale. The team collected and the supervisor’s data went for a one day training on how to approach the participants as well as ethical issues.

Data was later processed, analyzed, coded and entered using the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). The researchers used logistic regression analysis to identify the relationship between the ankle and foot pain as well as associated factors. Potential associated factors on the other hand were identified using the bivariate logistic regression analysis (Getie et al, 2021). All the variables that indicated a P-value <0.25 in the analysis for bivariate logistic regression were later model into the multivariate logistic regression analysis where all the variables with P value <0.0o5 were statistically noteworthy. Lemeshow goodness and Howmer were used to test the model fitness of the fit test. Variance inflation factor (VIF) on the other hand checked the multi-collinearity of the variables at a maximum value of 3.4. The operational definition of the study found ankle-pain to be any discomfort, ache or perceived pain around the ankle foot region for at least a single day for the last 12 months.Pain Treatments Research Paper

Contribution to medicine of the research developed

The study was significant to medicine since showed that ankle-foot pain was a common health problems occurring among the Ethiopian nurses. In addition, the study found out that the ankle-foot pain had a high correlation with poor shoe comfort, high physical demand, old age, work related conditions like working in the ICU as well as having underlying foot conditions.

 Reasons for choosing the article

The reason for choosing this article was to identify the underlying problem that caused several complains from get nurses about the ankle-foot pain. In addition, the article is an eye opener to several nurses to give attention to comfortable footwear as well as keeping their foot and ankles healthy.
