My goal/s for this competency is/are to:

1.      Educating the learners on the importance of EBP in clinical practice.

The resources (human and material) and strategies I need to meet my weekly goal are:

Undergraduate education is aimed at preparing the nurses for practice after their education and ensuring that they meet several core competencies. Some entities like the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) believe that EBP is one of the core competences that should be part of the healthcare professionals’ education and show how professionals can communicate with people from different cultures. I will use resources from nursing organizations like IOM, ACEN and others to meet my weekly goal.

The criteria I will use to measure my goals are:

The criteria I will use to measure my goals is interacting with the students and allowing the to interact with them and rate each other based on how  both EBP and cross-communication are applied in the workplace. Through the ratings, I will know whether I have succeeded or not.

I met my goal since the students were taught on the importance of incorporating EBP in practice and they also learned on the need to use cross-cultural communication. They learned different techniques such as employing diversity in decision-making in the workplace to promote cross-cultural communication among them, which would then be transmitted in the care. Reflection:

Evidence-based practice is part of the clinical expertise and it involves discovering the unique circumstances and values that the patients have. This practice is crucial for the nurses and the nursing profession since it offers several benefits. For example, it assists the nurses in building their body knowledge and minimizing the gap between nursing education, practice, research, and standardizing nursing practices. EBP is also critical in improving the patient outcomes improving the quality of health and decreasing healthcare costs The decisions made by the nurses have to be up-to-date and the research evidence must be available.  Implementation of EBP in the nurses’ everyday clinical practice is suboptimal (Abu Baker et al., 2021). My goal will help the nurses understand about BP and improve their belief on the concept. Belief is the perception of benefits and value and the perceived self-confidence on the skills and knowledge they have of EBP will help them succeed in their profession. The nurses who have strong beliefs in EBP can implement it more than the nurses who have a weak belief in this system.

Changes in health behavior is hard for most people. However, there are different people and strategies that can be used to facilitate the change in their behavioral efforts. Goal setting is a strategy to help people identify certain behaviors related to change and how to go about them. For most people, it is simply the act of setting a goal leading to actual behavioral change. For the person it involves, identifying the right goal, which may be hard if they do not know what they want. To other people, goal setting involves placing goals into actions. Several strategies may be of great help and they include setting and achieving goals (Abu Baker et al., 2021). Goals are considered as mental representations of the desired outcomes and goal setting is the process whereby one identifies certain goals, and determines how they are going to be achieved.  However, it is important to educate the undergraduate students on EBP as a way of improving their knowledge, strengthens their belief and even promote self-efficacy in implementing this concept. My goal would be successful since when EBP is applied, the provision of care is more consistent and the professional’s vale the patients and the communication they have among them. The nurses can search for evidence and integrate it in EBP changes as they disseminate the best practices.

On the other hand, my goal is ensuring that the nurses use cross-cultural communication to develop a good relationship with patients from other cultures. It would help the students to understand how they can communicate with people from different cultures as a way of improving patient care (Ladha et al., 2018).  Each individual can practice culture at different levels and he must understand that differences do exist. Some people have the culture they grow up in, the culture at their workplace and others they may not know. The nurses should ensure they do not constantly clash with people from other cultures but instead, an understanding between them is created to improve the care provided to the people from different cultures.
