Networking Opportunities week 1 discussion

My name is xxx and I live in Honey Brook, PA. I have been a nurse for 29 years and have worked in many areas including Medical-Surgical, Orthopedics, Home Health Care, and Behavioral Health. I have worked in management and used my experience to assist others in learning and enjoying nursing as I have for so many years. I currently work in Behavioral Health and that is where my heart has been since nursing school. I obtained my BSN in 2016 from Drexel University Online. My family has been encouraging me to go back to school for a while, but there was always an excuse not to start. I initially chose Walden University because many of my coworkers are enrolled currently and they are incredibly happy with their Walden journey. Once I did some research, I realized that Walden’s vision and goals closely match my goals as I pursue a graduate degree Networking Opportunities week 1 discussion .

My Goals and Walden University Mission and Vision

First of all, Walden makes it easy for working adults with families to return to school and manage work, school, family, and all the things that come along with every aspect of our lives. From the moment I applied, I was amazed at the support and communication I received and continue to receive today. My goal is to use the experience I have and the knowledge I will gain through this program to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Networking Opportunities week 1 discussion . One of Walden’s goals is “to provide innovative, learner-centered educational programs that recognize and incorporate the knowledge, skills, and abilities students bring into their academic programs” (Walden University, 2020). This aligned with my goal to use my experience as well as the experience of others to become a “scholar-practitioner” (Walden University, 2020) and provide quality and safe care to those in need.

Social Change in Nursing

I truly believe that the mental health population is underserved and I want to be a part of social change as I strive to respect and “promote the worth, dignity, and development of individuals, communities, organizations, institutions, cultures, and societies” (Walden University, 2020). While pursuing my professional goals, I need to continue to educate myself on different cultures and backgrounds and to always treat every person I meet with dignity and respect.

Walden MSN Learning Outcomes

As I reviewed the learning outcomes, I was able to see what my end goals are as I complete this program. I strive to be a competent and compassionate caregiver to my patients. I want to gain “specialist nursing knowledge to restore/promote health and prevent illness/injury” (Walden University, 2020). I look forward to our journey here at Walden. As nurses, we are constantly learning new things and looking for ways to make things better. How wonderful it will be to do that together.

After researching career choices, I found that nursing best fits my passion for helping others and making a difference in society. Nursing allows me to become a change agent who can help improve my community for betterment. As a nurse working in a hospital, I see how vital lifelong learning, along with experience, is to a practitioner when challenges arise. Walden’s provides a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners, which best fits my goal (2020–2021 Walden University Catalog (September 2020 Networking Opportunities week 1 discussion )).

I am an immigrant who seeks to grow as a professional in a country that differs from my motherland’s language and culture. Walden has a mission to provide a diverse community for students from various backgrounds and career professions. Walden gives students opportunities to advance their knowledge and experience through a diverse and supportive learning environment (2020–2021 Walden University Catalog (September 2020)). I believe the Walden community will be a safe place for students to learn and share experiences.  I genuinely trust that Walden provides excellent resources and faculty staff to support and give me a perfect opportunity to become a scholarly practitioner.

Walden has clear goals to provide education that will serve the career learners like me through multi contextual, innovative, and learner-centered programs by recognizing and incorporating the learner’s knowledge, skills and abilities into the learning process(2020–2021 Walden University Catalog (September 2020) ).  I enjoy learning when I can collaborate with my instructor and classmates through the discussion board and class cafe. I believe education should not be a one size fit all as no individual has the same character or personality, so each student should bring a different experience to share in the classroom. Also, I like that Walden uses diverse process-learning approaches (2020–2021 Walden University Catalog (September 2020)). Walden provides various learning resources that will support the learning environment, including a classroom café, discussion board, chat room, videos, and online library. Not only that, faculties and staff at Walden are also easy to approach and ready to provide a quick response when needed.

Walden supports positive social changes by pledged to produce knowledgeable and ethical practitioners. My professional goal is to become a scholar-nurse practitioner who could bring positive social changes to my society. I want to influence and be a great role model for the younger generation in my community and global. Being a part of a nurse practitioner program at Walden, I look forward to facilitating social changes in my society, committing to lifelong learning, and used my knowledge to practice in an advanced nursing career with legal and ethical integrity. I believe that Walden will provide support and help me achieve my professional goals and become an excellent quality Walden graduate. I am proud to become a Walden product of success.

My name is Stanley, I have been a nurse for 10 years. My experiences are emergency room and the operating room.  I am excited to be in this journey of obtaining my MSN degree in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). I have always aspired to be in this program since last two years. Part of my inspiration came from other Nurse Practitioners that I have worked it. They exhibited professionalism, great skill, and intellectual capabilities that made me wonder if they are nurses. My professional goals are to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and later, Doctor of Nursing Practice. I chose this route so that I can contribute more to the diverse patient population. I choose family nurse practitioner because of its versatility. Walden University mission and vision statement is related to my professional and academic goals because it aims at producing practitioners that can positively bring changes to the society (Walden University, 2020). The network chain at Walden university is so wonderful. It is one of the universities with large network of graduate from different specialties, who are willing to help acquire new knowledge, build skills and empower individuals within their network.

My professional and academic goals are to acquire knowledge, and skills necessary to impact the lives of patients positively. This skills and knowledge are embedded within learning outcomes and perspectives of Walden university Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program. To become a scholar practitioner, one need to attend a school with full course accreditation. Walden Master’s program is accredited by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (Walden University, 2020). My other goal of upgrading my education is to gain leadership skills, utilize evidence-based practice, develop my communication skill, and develop skill needed to transform health outcomes for diverse population. The learning outcome at Walden university is consistent with my goals for obtaining higher degrees.
