How Bad is the Situation of the Church and Culture

Moreland identifies that the issue of anti-intellectualism and evangelical withdrawal has significantly contributed to the loss of the Christian mind. The author argues that anti-intellectualism has contributed to Christians defecting from the life of the mind and has shifted the Christian mind where most now rely on emotions and shallow faith (Moreland, 2012). Consequently, it has resulted in the church’s inability to communicate its beliefs and engage in secularism. Despite the author highlighting how the church and culture situation has been ‘infected,’ this may change because of different perspectives. For example, some Christians may agree with the author’s claims that it needs prompt intervention, while others may perceive it as a situation that is not critical. The Christian Response to Secularism and Anti-intellectualism 

In response to the issue of secularism and anti-intellectualism, I agree with the author that Christians should work towards intellectual growth and be equipped to evangelize. The author identifies the need for Christians to grow intellectually. The author believes that the human mind is created to fellowship with God, which can only be achieved when Christians stand in a highly intellectual world (Moreland, 2012). In addition, I agree that for Christians to address this issue, they must not withdraw from the secular world but instead engage with it to evangelize and share their faith.

Anticipated Challenges with Moreland Critique and Remedy

The challenges we could encounter with the author’s critique and remedies include change resistance and maintaining balance. Some Christians and churches may find it challenging to adopt an intellectual basis as an approach to Faith. Ultimately, the Christians may be divided as some adopt change while others resist.
