Reflection

I anticipate that attending and successful completing this course will be an opportunity to improve my skills and knowledge. This will enable me to accomplish four objectives that would empower me to become a better nurse who effectively leverages my competencies in providing the required nursing care. The first objective is to practice the clinical skills learned all through the semester. The practical experience will allow me to engage with patients in the provision of professional nursing services within a supervised environment where I will be guided on what to do and corrected in case of errors/mistakes. Besides that, my skills will be refined even as I will be informed and guided on how to improve my nursing skills. The second objective is to improve my patient interview and physical examination skills. I expect to practice these skills while working with patients so that I improve my proficiency even as I explore different situations. The practical environment will allow me to interact with patients, family and other medical personnel so that I understand their perspectives and learn how to accommodate their views even as I practice within inter-professional teams. The final objective is to improve my knowledge about patient care and patient safety. The practical experience will enable me to better appreciate the interactions between the different components of nursing care, and how to balance the existing priorities, such as balancing cost, safety and care outcomes (Hurlock-Chorostecki et al., 2016). Overall, I expect to use the practical learning experience as an opportunity to refine the acquired nursing knowledge and skills.
