Impacts of Research in Rehabilitation Nursing.

Research influences nursing practice by improving best practices as advised by evidence. In my practice as a rehabilitation nurse, I focus on providing the client and family with education, care, and social support. My nursing care activities involve assisting clients undergoing rehabilitation and their families to acquire self-care skills.Impacts of Research in Rehabilitation Nursing.

I am an advocate coordinator and provider of essential interventions, which facilitate the adaptation to the environment by the disabled patients. The three principal goals of rehabilitation are maximizing or restoring function, increasing self-determination as well as optimizing clients’ lifestyle. Research impacts rehabilitation nursing practice by promoting skincare for patients with prolonged periods of restricted activity. Patients who lie on the bed for a long time have a risk of developing pressure ulcers (Lee et al., 2019).Impacts of Research in Rehabilitation Nursing.

The promotion of infection, especially after stroke is a significant product of research. Rehabilitation patients face difficulties in swallowing, oral hygiene, emptying the bladder. Accumulation of urine and bacterial infection in stroke patients can occur. According to Lee et al. (2019), inadequate fluid intake causes the accumulation of urine. Therefore, it is essential for post-stroke patients to intake plenty of fluids and to have their catheters changed after two weeks. Research impacts exercise, aiming at regulating the metabolic processes, distribution of oxygen, enhancing strength and endurance, reducing body fat, and improving muscle-joint movements.Impacts of Research in Rehabilitation Nursing.

How to Use Research in My Practice

As researchers make discoveries, I change my practice to avoid outdated information and skills. Research is useful in correcting misunderstandings and pave the way for new interventions (Wade, 2020). Several studies involving the field rehabilitative nursing practice have yielded findings, which guide me in care. I use research in my practice to determine whether the interventions used daily on the clients lead to desired outcomes. Results of studies regarding specific interventions in rehabilitative nursing dictate my practice. Besides, I read published research, compare findings from different studies and use knowledge in practice. Peer-reviewed and published data accepted by the nursing profession guides me into knowing the best practices in rehabilitation.Impacts of Research in Rehabilitation Nursing.

Additionally, I use research findings to drive into adopting particular rehabilitative interventions or drop phased-out treatment modalities. For example, recent research on use of virtual reality to restore gait and balance in patients with Parkinson disease shows promising opportunities to improve these patients gait (Canning et al., 2020). The findings of this research and more randomize studies on the same domain; help me choose the best intervention for Parkinson patients. Generally, without research, the rehabilitation-nursing practice would be slow to produce good outcomes or would be inappropriate.Impacts of Research in Rehabilitation Nursing.
