Identifying an Organizational Problem

Identify at least two organizational problems that you could potentially use for your final project.

The identified health organization faces significant management challenges that have evolved over time as a result of the diverse, complex and growing health care offerings. The two problems are the patients’ unwillingness to seek health care and the rising costs of delivering health care. Exploring how to address these problems presents potential opportunities for the final project.

Reflect on any personal experiences you have had with these problems or identify how they could affect your future career.

Although the two problems appear independent, they are related. The high cost of health care – as a result of regulatory changes and other economic challenges from technological innovations, economic changes and political fighting – has caused patients to be increasingly unwilling to seek medical services. These problems have placed financial pressure on medical organizations as they face management problems in seeking to minimize their costs while increasing revenues(Truglio-Londrigan&Lewenson, 2018).Identifying an Organizational Problem Essay

In a bid to reduce costs while increasing revenues, the medical organization has approached personnel management as an important opportunity to save costs. The organization is understaffed with significant nurse personnel shortages so that the available nurses are overworked. In addition, the nurse shortage has increased dissatisfaction and intention to leave the organization/profession among the nurse personnel. Besides that, there have been higher incidences of preventable nursing mistakes. To be more precise, there have been increased incidences of hospital acquired infections, negative patient outcomes, medication errors, failure to rescue, aggravated medical conditions, and negligence. Also, the organization has had to employ less qualified nurses who demand lower wages thus compromising the quality of nursing care delivered (Truglio-Londrigan&Lewenson, 2018).

Assess systems thinking and how your performance affects the overall system and customer satisfaction when addressing these real-world problems.

Systems thinking is a holistic approach applied to analysis, which presents the idea that a system has constituent parts that are interrelated. Successes in the constituent parts contribute to the systems overall success. Applying systems thinking shows that nurse shortages affects the performance of nurses, which in terns affects the performance of other medical personnel as indicate by the overall care outcomes for the patients. The idea is that addressing the problem of nurse shortage and improving the performance of nurses would incidentally improve the performance of other medical personnel with better care outcomes for the patients thereby improving their satisfaction levels (Black, 2016).
