Family Nurse Practitioner Essay

Family Nurse Practitioner Essay

Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are the healthcare workers that offer comprehensive and in-depth care to the patients at the home set up and community level. FNPs have added responsibility inpatient care and also have variety career prospects (Paradiso & Lally, 2018). Family Nurse Practitioner Essay.  I was motivated to become a family practitioner nurse by the greater autonomy and the responsibilities given to a FNP that overlap the normal duties of a registered nurse. Responsibilities like maintaining health records, monitoring patient from their homes and examining patients at the community level motivated me to study FNP.

In addition, family practice nurses have better career stability compared to other nursing specialties since FNP is on high demand in the modern world. Family nurse practitioners also have opportunities to maintain connections with their patients after they are discharged from the hospitals since they continue working close to them (Yingling, Cotler & Hughes, 2017). A family nurse practitioner gets great fulfilment and satisfaction since the nature of their job gives them an opportunity to impact on the health of the community. With the authority given to the FNPs to prescribe, they are able to offer cost-effective healthcare services since patients do not pay for transport and consultation fees. Therefore family healthcare make a big impact and difference in the lives of people making healthcare affordable and accessible.

According to Paradiso and Lally (2018), the transition from registered nurse to a family practitioner nurse is a stressful career change. I was faced with the challenge of loss of confidence, alteration in professional identity and impaired development of nurse practitioner roles. My decision to become as a family nurse practitioner was also undermined making my employment continuity a challenge. However, the transition was eventually efficient and effective and I feel this is one of the best decisions I made in my life. Family Nurse Practitioner Essay.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is affiliated with family nurse practitioners specialty. AANP offers a unifying choice for more than 220,000 nurse practitioners across the world (Kleinpell, Cook & Padden, 2018). The family nurse practitioners registered with AANP are led by their vision, “High-quality healthcare for all by the patient’s provider of choice”. For one to become a member with AANP, they have successfully completed a FNP program and should also be enrolled with FNP.

Examining Nursing Specialties

Psychiatric nursing is a specialty within the field of nursing providing holistic care to the patients with behavioral problems as well as patients with mental disorders. The psychiatric nurse provides physical care to the patients by communicating and socializing with them thus creating comfortable and safe environment thus promoting positive change (Thomson, Racher & Clements, 2019). Some of the mental illness conditions include eating disorder, post traumatic disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorder.

My decision to study psychiatric nursing was influenced by my compassion, resilience and adaptability of the mental health profession. The mental health profession is amazing since it gives one an opportunity to take care of the most vulnerable patients (Guntuku et al, 2017). Family Nurse Practitioner Essay. Walking the mental patients a journey of recovery is very fulfilling and such an honor. In addition, psychiatric nursing is satisfying since it gives one an opportunity to make a difference in the society thus providing stimulation and variety daily. The prevalence of mental problems on the society also propelled me to develop the desire to study psychiatric nursing. Statistics show that the rate if mental illnesses is worsening especially among young adults. Patients suffering from mental illness are discriminated and stigmatized in the society and their health needs are not met. I felt the urge to interact with the mentally challenged patients at a professional level to meet their needs as well as making them feel wanted and cared for in the society.

The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) is the largest professional organization affiliated to psychiatric-mental health. APNA focuses on prevention of mental health problems, care and treatment of patients with mental disorders as well as nursing and wellness promotion (Delaney, Drew & Rushton, 2019). The American Psychiatric Nurses Association has more than 14,000 members globally who are eligibly registered at a reasonable cost. The members of the APNA practice public health institutions, community settings, research institutions as well as inpatient setting. Students registered with the NSNA (National Students Nurses Association) are eligible to join APNA for free at a 10 dollar value. However, members unregistered with NSNA can also sign up for free by agreeing to get the information about APNA membership from the students association first. Family Nurse Practitioner Essay.

Strategies for Academic Portfolios

Personal branding is the intentional and conscious effort used influence and create the perception of an individual to the public by elevating, their credibility. In addition, personal branding helps an individual to differentiate themselves from competition, to position them at a high rank in the industry as well as giving them an opportunity to advance their career. A nursing personal branding id therefore the sum total of what someone knows, what they have to move in the world, who they are and they experience they have when interacting with patients (Godsey, Houghton & Hayes, 2020). A professional portfolio on the other hand is a collection of materials selected carefully to document skills, competencies, professional; growth as well as expertise of an individual. In nursing field, portfolios are used for career ladder promotions as well as annual performance appraisals.

The major items to be included in the nursing portfolio are certificates of completion of education, letters of recommendation, letters of appreciation, patient plan documentation, clinical pathways and all the procedures developed in career building.

The Walden University MSN nursing course Public Health Nursing leadership provides the students with the ways to showcase their professional and educational qualifications by creating a portfolio (Walden, Lie, Pandolfo & Nemme, 2018). The guide to create a professional portfolio gives the nurses then ability to earn their academic targets as well as creating desirable goals in their career.

According to Walden, Lie, Pandolfo and Nemme (2018), creating desirable portfolios aligns with the university’s emphasis on social change that transforms the society through projects and actions is necessary in helping building an engaged community. The Walden university’s center for social change supports, promotes and facilitates projects, action research and alliances that lead to positive and sustainable social change. The purpose of the journal is to disseminate as well as translating the research based activities into administrative, educational and clinical use. Through dissemination and translation, the outcomes of patients are improved thus promoting excellence in nursing and healthcare. I used the academic search complete database to search for the JENHP journal that offers enormous collection of the full text journals. The academic search complete also provides the users with critical information required from the journal sources.

I recommend the academic search complete database to my colleagues it provides abstracts and indexing for publications and journals.
