Various new concepts have been learned throughout this program. However, this discussion will focus on two new items of information from this week’s assigned readings and lecture that are new to me and useful to my practice as an APN. It will discuss how the new information can enhance my practice. Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing Health Care Essay.

The two new items of information from this week’s assigned readings and lecture are barriers to evidence-based practice and how to overcome these barriers. Evidence-based practices (EBP) provide an APN with findings based on science and research on how to address various issues in the clinical practice. Nonetheless, the implementation of evidence-based practice is compromised by some barriers. The primary challenge facing the adoption of EBP in healthcare organizations is the lack of the required knowledge and skills (Khammarnia et al., 215). In most cases, nurses are involved in the implementation of EBP in clinical settings. However, most of these medical practitioners lack the knowledge and skills required to implement EBP in their clinical practices. This challenge can be addressed through training the nurses to equip them with the required skills before incorporating EBP into their clinical practices.

Secondly, the implementation of EBP is faced with the challenge of shortage of nurses. Nurses spend more time with patients taking care of them than other healthcare professionals. Therefore, they take a leading role in the implementation of EBP in a healthcare organization. Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing Health Care Essay. However, most medical facilities are experiencing a nursing shortage resulting in an inappropriate nurse staffing ratio and a high workload for the nurse (Khammarnia et al., 2015). Consequently, it is difficult for the nurses to incorporate EBP into their clinical practices. This issue can be addressed by hiring more nurses and retaining the current ones to ensure an appropriate nurse staffing ratio in the medical facility. Nurses will be able to implement EBP in their clinical practices if they are allocated an appropriate number of patients.

Another challenge facing the implementation of EBP in healthcare organizations is the lack of the required resources. Technology is required in the implementation of most EBP. On the contrary, most medical facilities find it difficult to keep up with fast-changing technology. Installing the latest technology is expensive for the most healthcare organization. This barrier can be addressed by setting aside some funds for updating technology regularly. Having the most advanced technology will enhance the implementation of EBP in healthcare organizations. Additionally, nurses should be trained on how to use the advanced technology during the implementation of EBP in their clinical practices.

As a master’s prepared APN, I enhance evidence-based practice in my current practice in the healthcare setting. Currently, I am working in an ICU where patients require high-quality care services. Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing Health Care Essay.  Therefore, enhancing EBP will improve the quality and safety of care provided to the patients (Jordan et al., 2016). I will enhance the use of EBP in this setting by reading literature about the most effective EBP in the ICU. According to Shayan et al. (2019), lack of the required knowledge is among the primary barriers that hinder the implementation of EBP in clinical practices.

Overall, the implementation of evidence-based practice in healthcare organizations is compromised by various factors, including the lack of the required knowledge, nurse shortage, and lack of the required technology. Therefore, addressing these challenges will enhance the incorporation of EBP into clinical practices.
