Dissemination of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice is only as effective as its ability to be shared understood and carried out. Multiple strategies exist to disseminate this information to those who can utilize the data and make changes in patient safety. An article by Gallagher-Ford et al. (2011) shares the process of enacting a new protocol designed by the pertinent evidence-based practice. Theirs is a multiple-step process, but steps to their plan can be utilized on a smaller scale to properly distribute information. My research has demonstrated that although changes within the hospital can significantly impact patient outcomes post-STEMI, that total ischemic time, or the time from onset of STEMI to balloon time, not just arrival from arrival at the hospital, is imperative in improving patient outcomes. Therefore, information must not only be disseminated to the healthcare workers involved, but also to the continuously growing community of cardiac patients.
The first step involved is “engaging the stakeholders” (Gallagher-Ford et al., 2011). As it is impossible to accomplish change without the support of peers, leadership, and upper administration, specific strategies are required to educate these individuals. Two suggested in the article are “spend[ing] time and effort building trust” and “solicit[ing] input from stakeholders” (Gallagher-Ford et al., 2011, p. 54). Without a team behind you, it is impossible to achieve such a significant goal, therefore these two strategies are key to establish a team and publicize the data. You can use many methods to gather input. Technology allows us to send educational posters and fliers by email with attached surveys and quizzes to understand perception. Utilizing social marketing is key to my project as well, as the research I have discovered shows that community understanding of when to come to the emergency room is vital to patient outcomes. Brownson et al. (2018) share an important point when they state that “the
dissemination of research to nonscientists is enhanced when messages are framed in ways that evoke emotion and interest and demonstrate usefulness” (p. 103).
Unlikely Strategies to Use
I am unlikely to write an article for a peer-reviewed journal as it does not address my target audience which is the leadership of my organization, the healthcare workers involved in STEMI care, and the general public. In order to reach mass amounts of people, face-to-face meetings such as podium talks, seminars, and health fairs are impossible due to the current state of our country regarding social distancing and the pandemic. Therefore, I would presently avoid these methods.
A significant barrier to using social media and marketing to reach the community is the difficulty of measuring outcomes, the ability to follow up to evaluate understanding, and conveying a message that will enact change. Secondly, reaching large audiences with a campaign can be costly and requires significant backing from your organization to place advertising such as posters, bus signs, online ads, etc. (George et al., 2016). This barrier can be overcome by “appeal[ing] to an audience in a way in which the benefits (eg, lives saved by a new policy) outweigh the risks (eg, economic or opportunity costs” (Brownson et al., 2018, p. 104).
It is possible to overcome financial barriers by appealing to the organization’s goals. In order to obtain backing, it is essential to prove how an increase in the education of the community would benefit costs, readmission rates, and overall patient outcomes.
Overcoming these barriers and applying these strategies has the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes related to STEMI care. Therefore, we must strive to clearly and accurately disseminate the information to health care professionals and patients in the hospital as well as the community.

EBP Dissemination Strategies
The art of dissemination is described by Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt (2019), as spreading information widely so as to increase the circulation of information to others.
Two means of dissemination I would be inclined to use would be a presentation in meetings for people who are
stakeholders within the mental health arena. This could include multiple people such as nurses, doctors, administrators, the public, and also legislative persons. Least Dissemination Strategies
Email would be my least dissemination strategy. The reason is email is designed for quick connections not for a

Barriers to Overcome
My limited knowledge and experience would be one barrier to dissemination strategies. Overcoming this would
require study and research on my development of my process of dissemination and of course more experience. Another barrier for the dissemination strategy may include getting information published on a mental health website. Evidence-based practice has become a vital component in the modern healthcare system due to the need for continuous efficiency and quality services. Curtis, Fry, Shaban, and Considine (2017) note that most healthcare facilities rely on EBP to improve and revolutionize processes for better patient outcomes. Medication errors are among the most outstanding factors affecting different healthcare institutions across the world. Dissemination is essential for professional research and learning and is a key step in the evidence-based practice process within the health care system and should incorporate quality improvement (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). When planning to search for evidence for a project research study and searching for the best evidence it is imperative to use evidence-based research tools such as systematic reviews, clinical practice guidelines, expert committee reports, and single studies using resources such as journals, websites, books, bibliographic databases (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). I chose social media because in this age of time most of the world is networking, marketing, working, socializing, and even buying clothing, housing goods, and food on social media (RHI, 2021). The least dissemination strategy I would use is a national journal. The reason says I do not like national journals is because not everyone reads national journals. I’ll be honest, the only reason I have ever read a national journal was that I was either in school and needed to write a paper or research something for work. I don’t believe a typical person reads national journals. To overcome these barriers is a challenge but can be managed by educating to the public on how to decipher fake information from real information. Dissemination Strategies of EBP
To keep my theme of reduction of medication administration errors going, I chose to write on the implementation of patient identifiers in my workplace through best evidence-based practice. To begin, this would be geared towards the treatment team side of our unit; nurses, mental health techs (MHT), resident counselors (RC) and supervisors from each disciplinary. Leadership is critical to build organizational readiness for change (Newhouse, et al., 2007). To support nurses’ readiness to implement EBP adequate training, management support, and system access all must be provided (Rahmayanti, et al., 2020).
Possible 2 Dissemination Strategies
The first strategy to disseminate evidence of patient identifiers would be using a roundtable presentation model. Choosing this model allows for a more personable approach and includes the frontline employees that this implementation will affect the most. Including supervisors of nurses, MHTs, and RCs and one employee from both day shift and night shift will provide a well rounded group to discuss the practical application of the content (Melnyk, et al., 2018). Using the poster presentation would allow for interaction amongst co-workers and create a sharing and learning environment (Melnyk, et al., 2018).
Not Recommended 2 Dissemination Strategies
One strategy that is overused by leadership at my job is media in the form of video messages. The reason it is not a recommended strategy is the impersonal and fact driven approach that each video emits. There is no option for staff to interact or ask questions about information that is given. It is also hard to take the video seriously when you are asked to get on YouTube to watch a homemade video with comedic effects on matters that most staff deem not of the highest importance. Another strategy that would not be recommended is the organizational level presentations. It is hard to touch on specific topics when such a broad presentation is being given. For this instance, the implementation would not be at the organizational level, therefore, not a good recommendation for the dissemination of evidence.
The first barrier to the strategies chosen for dissemination of evidence would be support of leadership. This would include leadership approving change in process, adding new policies to support the implementation, and of course, budgeting to allow for supplies needed. The second barrier to the strategies chosen is the willingness of frontline staff to implement change in their processes and procedures. With change comes push-back, especially in healthcare. To have a successful implementation of evidence-based practice leadership must support the plan, training and requirements of staff must be flexible to fit schedules, and the incorporation of models and tools (Newhouse, et al., 2007).
