Proposed health policy: Opioid crisis preferred

The proposed health policy is the Opioid Crisis in the United States. The policy is proposed due to the extent of health related issues being experienced in the United States. The effects of opioids overuse and deaths started being experienced from the mid-1970s (Whitmore et al., 2018). The policy is crucial due to the importance of the impact of the use of opioids on public health, social outcomes, and the nation’s economic outcomes. Development of Health Policy Essay Assignment

This policy is greatly affected by the behavior of the people as the major social determinant of health. This is because, the misuse of opioids brings adverse health effects as people try to use the drug is achieving certain responsibilities at home, school, or work. In addition, opioid management among patients is major because of behavioral changes to alleviate the opioid use disorder (Whitmore et al., 2018). The crisis is propagated by major waves across decades that have resulted in increasing opioid markets and the demand for this drug due to worsening social and economic times for some populations. The development of this policy in 2016 and towards 2018 ensures there is adequate funding and response to opioid cases and related disorders (Compton et al., 2019). There is adequate evidence base to support this policy. There is a huge pool of scientific, social, and economic studies based on opioid use and its health-related issues. The articles are current with supporting data from states and healthcare facilities. In addition, there are model treatment methods that have been developed to deal with escalating cases of opioid abuse and overuse. Thus, the policy is timely and there is sufficient evidence to support its enactment.
