Children of immigrants are the fastest-growing child population in the United States (Bovell-Ammon et al., 2019). Immigrant families have a far higher risk of food insecurity than homes with native-born Americans. Financial difficulties make it challenging to provide a sufficient diet for all home members, leading to food insecurity (Bovell-Ammon et al., 2019). Some members of a food-insecure home may have to make do with less food than usual, eat foods that are lower in quality or have trouble maintaining a regular eating schedule. In addition, studies show that a sizable percentage of the American population has an unhealthy diet. For those aged 20-74, 14% of males and 24% of women are considered obese. There is a gender gap in these rates, with women experiencing it at far greater rates than males. Pregnant and nursing women often have trouble getting enough iron and folic acid. According to some studies, 10 and 15 percent of children in migrant worker families and some poor rural groups have growth retardation due to inadequate nutrition. Nutrient deficiencies and excess or incorrect ingestion of certain nutrients may lead to several health issues. Any malnutrition seriously jeopardizes the health of humans. Undernourishment and obesity are two of the most pressing global health issues today, particularly in poor and middle-income nations (Yu et al., 2018). Undernourishment, insufficient vitamin or mineral intake, excess body fat, and associated noncommunicable illnesses all fall under malnutrition.
