Critical decision making in healthcare is an essential component of quality nursing care as well as professional accountability. An accident occurred on his way to work causing delays at the road hence the rush. Incidentally, on his arrival to the workplace, Mike comes across a spill on the floor of the healthcare facility. Previously, Mike had received warning from his supervisor concerning his reporting time to work. Therefore, Mike was caught up in a dilemma of whether to report to the supervisor first or to address the spillage. Mike flashed back about his responsibilities being the sole provider to his wife and their newborn. Therefore, he chose to clock into the workstationsince slowing down to address the spillage would put him a at a risk of losing his job. The decision made by Mike for not reporting the spillage to the colleagues and supervisor could report to several implications. In addition, Mike is also at a risk of being subjected to paying for the damages from the negligent act. The patients and the surrounding community will decline their confidence towards the facility. Unfortunately, one patient fell and fractured their hip exposing the clinic to the risk of litigation for the damages sustained by the patient. In addition, the orthopedic department was faced with a workload since the fractured hip required special attention.
