The Assignment (Evidence-Based Project) Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following: 1. Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest. 2.Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest. 3. Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected. 4.Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. Clinical Inquiry Essay Example. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article. Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
  • Develop a PICO(T) question to address the clinical issue of interest you identified in Module 2 for the Assignment. This PICOT question will remain the same for the entire course.
  • Use the key words from the PICO(T) question you developed and search at least four different databases in the Walden Library. Identify at least four relevant systematic reviews or other filtered high-level evidence, which includes meta-analyses, critically-appraised topics (evidence syntheses), critically-appraised individual articles (article synopses). The evidence will not necessarily address all the elements of your PICO(T) question, so select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available.
  • Reflect on the process of creating a PICO(T) question and searching for peer-reviewed research

Searching Databases

I choose the topic of falls in elderly patients. Falls are a leading cause of fatal injury in elderly patients and the most common non-traumatic cause of hospitalization among the older population. There is the misconception that falls are common and even normal events in older adults’ daily lives. It is assumed to be a natural consequence of the aging process. Elderly falls is a problem that is frequently ignored. Clinical Inquiry Essay Example. Half of older people who fall do it repeatedly, it is a problem in which they tend to relapse. Falls are the primary cause of injury or death for the elderly over 65 years old. About 30% of the elderly over 65 years old fall every year. In 2015, there were 29 million elderly falls in the United States, of which 37.5% required medical treatment or restricted activities for one day or more, and about 33,000 people died (Chen et al.,2020).

According to Mazurek & Fineout-Overholt (2019). The purpose of the PICOT question is to guide the systematic search of healthcare databases to find the best available evidence to answer the question. The PICOT question will be related to Falls in elderly patients will be reduced more effectively with implementing an educational program than with the usual fall prevention interventions. The databases used for my search were EBSCO, PUBMED, and CINAHL. The search was done using different questions: Falls in the elderly population, fall prevention in the elderly, and fall rates in the elderly.  More than 10.000 articles were founded during this search after the filter articles of the last five years were applied. After the Boolean operators AND was used and the search was more specific, I founded in CINAHL full text and PUBMED 51 articles. The search strategies that can help me to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search in  PICO(T) question are: establish a clear question, choose an appropriate database, add variations in search terms,  use boolean operators. One example of this research strategies’ importance was seen during my research because I could limit the number of articles and find the most useful according to the PICOT question established when boolean operators were used.
