Assignment: Literature Review: The Use of Clinical Systems to Improve Outcomes and Efficiencies

Application of Clinical Systems

Introduction

The use of technology in healthcare has been observed to help in the advancement of the quality of health of patients and it helps in the improvement of the performance of the healthcare providers. The use of technology as well as ensuring that there is an improvement in the safety of care among patients. The speed of delivery of care has improved with the use of technology. One of the technological advancements that have been seen in the health setting is clinical systems. These are used in the process of sharing information among healthcare providers as well as with the patients. Clinical systems such as electronic medical records help in the process of storage of patient information. This paper presents an annotation of the research studies on the application of clinical systems.

The study aims to evaluate the impact of making if the use of electronic health records on the quality of care for patients and its use in the health setting. The authors argue that there has been a progressive rise in the use of technology for the past many years. The increasing use of technology such as electronic health records is an expectation in the healthcare system today. The influence of the use of such clinical systems will be influential in that it will determine the extent that the systems are adopted and that the people can accept. This will as well be expected to influence the perception of the stakeholders on the application of the clinical system.

The findings in the investigation show that the use of electronic health records ensures that there is an elimination of any issues such as errors and hence the quality of care for patients is assured. The other thing is that there is a clear indication that this will help in the improvement of the clinical processes. The study is instrumental in that it helps in the determination of the role that the healthcare providers can play in the process of use of technology. This as well includes the influence that this will have on the healthcare services among patients. The factors as well will determine the extent that the healthcare providers can be able to commit to the provision of the best quality.

Patient preferences toward an interactive e-consent application for research using electronic health records. Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, 25(3), 360-368.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the perception of patients about the use of interactive electronic consent in the process of decision making as well as the use of identifiable electronic health records information. This is an important step in that as much as there is an ease in the application of technology the view of patients is supposed to be considered to allow for the elimination of any risk of poor interventions of care. This will be fundamental as well in that it will determine the commitment that the patients will have to support the changes that are occurring in the health setting.

The findings in the investigation show that the use of the interactive e-consent application is fundamental in that it ensures that there is ease in the process of customization of the consent experience. The patients can therefore be able to use their understanding of the use of consent in such a manner that there will be an avoidance of any administrative processes. The efforts as well will help in the determination of the administrative processes. The efforts to ensure that one safeguards the use of electronic health record allows for the improvement of the understanding of the influence of the use of research activities in the process of decision making. With the knowledge on the perception of patients on the use of technology in the access of consent, there is an ease for the healthcare providers to effectively communicate with the patients.

The article aims to evaluate the impact of making use of electronic health records systems in the healthcare setting. The authors posit that there has been a progressive rise in the use of technology in the health setting. With the increasing use of technology, healthcare providers are in a position to ensure that any risks of poor interactions among patients or healthcare providers can be avoided. The use of technology is seen to be an important step in that it will ensure that one can be able to reach out to the needs of patients. The concern is that there could be healthcare providers having different views on the use of technology and this may influence the implementation of clinical systems.

The authors in the investigation found that although there is healthcare providers show are still standing against the use of eHealth there is a larger percentage that has found that technology helps in the improvement of the quality of care. This is an important step because it ensures that the challenges that are faced in the health setting are easily avoided. The changes that are seen in the health setting calls for the proposal of a clear set up of measures to ensure that patient care processes are not affected. The success in the support of the use of technology in the health setting is seen to be instrumental in that it will allow for the management of the decision-making activities and that it ensures that better healthcare services are a provider for the patients. Although there is an ease in the determination of the best ways to apply technology healthcare providers should be advised on the need for support of the application of clinical systems.

Tubaishat, A. (2018). Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of electronic health records among nurses: application of technology acceptance model. Informatics for Health and Social Care, 43(4), 379-389.

The study aims at the determination of the perception that is there with the use of electronic health records. The use of technology as per the authors has had a mixed reaction among people in that others have viewed it to have a risk of putting patients at risk but others support that it has a positive impact on the health of patients. The application of technology without taking into account the views of the healthcare providers may be a concern since it may lead to conflict in the process of implementation of the changes. The efforts to ensure that healthcare providers support the need for change allow for better health standards of patients. The perception of the usefulness of the use of technology will impact the way that healthcare providers will support its use.

The authors in the investigation found that the use of electric health records in healthcare is perceived to help in the development of the performance of healthcare providers. Nurses are therefore in support of the need for change. This is an indication that the support of the use of technology will ensure that there is the subsequent process of care for patient needs and that there are issues that may be faced in the use of technology but this should not influence the standard of care for patients. The application of technology has been accepted overly in the health setting.

Conclusion

There has been extensive research on the use of clinical systems and the influence that it has had on the health of patients and the performance of healthcare providers. From the research, it is clear that the use of technology has progressively gained the support of healthcare providers and patients. The process of use of clinical systems is found to ensure that there is an improvement in the performance of healthcare providers regarding the speed and the quality of patient care. There has been an improvement in the satisfaction of patients as well about the use of clinical systems.

Assignment: Literature Review: The Use of Clinical Systems to Improve Outcomes and Efficiencies

New technology—and the application of existing technology—only appears in healthcare settings after careful and significant research. The stakes are high, and new clinical systems need to offer evidence of positive impact on outcomes or efficiencies.

Nurse informaticists and healthcare leaders formulate clinical system strategies. As these strategies are often based on technology trends, informaticists and others have then benefited from consulting existing research to inform their thinking.

In this Assignment, you will review existing research focused on the application of clinical systems. After reviewing, you will summarize your findings.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the impact of clinical systems on outcomes and efficiencies within the context of nursing practice and healthcare delivery.
  • Conduct a search for recent (within the last 5 years) research focused on the application of clinical systems. The research should provide evidence to support the use of one type of clinical system to improve outcomes and/or efficiencies, such as “the use of personal health records or portals to support patients newly diagnosed with diabetes.”
  • Identify and select 4 peer-reviewed research articles from your research.
  • For information about annotated bibliographies, visit https://academicguides.waldenu.edu/writingcenter/assignments/annotatedbibliographies

The Assignment: (4-5 pages not including the title and reference page)

In a 4- to 5-page paper, synthesize the peer-reviewed research you reviewed. Format your Assignment as an Annotated Bibliography. Be sure to address the following:

  • Identify the 4 peer-reviewed research articles you reviewed, citing each in APA format.
  • Include an introduction explaining the purpose of the paper.
  • Summarize each study, explaining the improvement to outcomes, efficiencies, and lessons learned from the application of the clinical system each peer-reviewed article described. Be specific and provide examples.
  • In your conclusion, synthesize the findings from the 4 peer-reviewed research articles.
