Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Healthcare services are constantly and consistently faced with complexities that are contributed by licensing/accreditation standards, regulations, and third-party payer requirements (Michaelis et al.,2019). Therefore, having formalized policies and practices can help mitigate these complexities through fostering regulatory compliance, promoting workplace safety, and delivering safe and high-quality patient care. When developing organizational policies and practices, it is important to identify and confirm whether the necessary professional associations have published guidelines regarding the subject (Michaelis et al.,2019). The two competing needs affecting the upskilling of healthcare professionals include lack of enough research been published concerning factors that act as barriers to educational efforts and the relationship between these factors and education. secondly, there is some published research that has been published to offer empirical support for various factors that impact health professional practice.

The growth of the population is constantly presenting new challenges for healthcare professionals. Besides, the number of patients increasing, the healthcare conditions and ailments are also becoming diversified (Samuel et al.,2020). Therefore, to efficiently meet the demands of this growing industry, it is important to offer registered nurses additional training to help offer the highest quality of care. Ideally, upskilling empowers nurses to offer more specialized care and provides them with a wider range of career opportunities as well as advancement potentials. Since healthcare technology keeps advancing and changing daily, ensuring it remains up to date is crucial for success.

Evidently, there is a huge demand in the healthcare industry for upskilled medical professionals who are competent and knowledgeable in modern practices and can be flexible due to their education (Samuel et al.,2020). The efficiency, growth, and success of the healthcare industry largely rely on the growth and development of its employees. Therefore, prioritizing advanced education for healthcare professionals will be a key driver for this development. For example, there is a myriad of opportunities as well as career potentials for nurses who have advanced their education (Samuel et al.,2020). It is crucial for medical professionals to have the capacity and ability to implement the new healthcare technologies as well as medical advancements that take place daily. Unfortunately, if the healthcare professionals are not trained, they will continue operating using outdated methods and as a result, the growth of the industry will be derailed.

One policy in our organization that has been designed to address the issue of upskilling healthcare professionals, is known as Quality improvement training required for healthcare professionals. Ideally, policy centers on training programs meant to teach health professionals as well as students the formal quality improvement methods. Mainly, the activities are to equip and teach professionals regarding methods that can be employed and used to improve quality (Samuel et al.,2020). Some of the courses found in the training policy include evidence-based medicine, leadership, and statistics. It is important to note that training in quality improvement is normally provided for paraprofessional, medical and nursing students across the globe. For example, continuing professional development (CPD) courses, on the job training, short workshops as well as training associated with particular projects.6053 Week 2 Assignment Research

The policy encourages the staff to adopt and fully participate in continuing professional development training regarding quality improvement and also get involved in ad hoc training designed to bolster certain improvement projects. The importance of this training will be to raise strategic leaders in the healthcare system (Smith et al.,2018). While most medical professionals are trained and equipped to handle patients only, further training will build more skills to be used in the management and research in healthcare management which are crucial in today’s sophisticated system.

Essentially, the policy document emphasizes the need to have staff who not only perform their duties well but who can challenge the status quo and highlight where things can be done better. Each healthcare facility requires leaders who will ensure activities are run smoothly and who are proactive in encouraging other people to do the same (Smith et al.,2008). Therefore, upskilling healthcare professionals through training will equip them with the required skills to implement the necessary improvements required inpatient care while continuing to develop professionally.

The training policy has its strengths such as all the terms within it have been properly defined. Also, the name selected for the policy is recognizable and is simple thus making it easy for the staff to locate it (Smith et al.,2018). Also, it has a table of content which helps to locate certain sections. Further to fully maximize the usefulness of the policies and practices as well as reducing the potential risks a senior leader has been designated to oversee the implementation and the periodic review of the training policy. Also, a feedback mechanism has been implemented to enable the staff to report to the management any situation that may arise as a result of the execution of the stipulated policies and practices.

The policy was developed within the confines of the ethical practice of healthcare professionals. For example, medical professionals are expected to have a high level of respect for all individuals and should exercise dignity while dealing with communication (Smith et al.,2008). Also, the patient’s families ought to be treated with the respect due to their relationship with the patient. Further, the primary commitment of any healthcare professional should be the patient whether an individual, community, family, population or group. Further, a nurse should always advocate for, protect, and promote the rights, safety, and health of the patient. Therefore, to ensure everyone in the organization fully complies with the policy, some requirements have been classified as red rules. essentially, this is meant to emphasize their relevance and they are intended to make the medical staff to reconsider before they choose to act contrary to the red rule.

The red rules are to be performed without fail since they are the ones that reinforce the ethical considerations of the policy (Smith et al.,2018). As a result, the red rules are not many since it can be difficult to manage them if they are many and it can be counterproductive. One of the challenges that the implementation of the policy can face is the issue of standardizing. For instance, when there are several hospitals in a healthcare system, there is minimal justification for permitting each facility to independently develop its policies (Wong et al.,2020). Evidently, having different policies can expose organizations to risk since one hospital may have less comprehensive policies, and that be interpreted to mean the provision of a lower standard of care. Therefore, there is a need to have system policies and practices.6053 Week 2 Assignment Research

One recommendation would be to replace the paper policy with electronic libraries to enhance easy access and to optimize the utilization and usefulness of electronic libraries. While doing so, it is necessary to ensure that policies that have officially retired should be removed and replaced with an active database (Wong et al.,2020). Further, an electronic archive is useful for storing the prior versions of the policies. The relevance of this is, it will enhance access in response to audit and legal requests.
